According to the paint company’s website, the Signature Store Program was developed in conjunction with the company’s vision and strategy for “supporting and strengthening the independent retail channel and protecting, enhancing and leveraging the Benjamin Moore brand.”

Third-generation owner, Matt Mazzone, finds Benjamin Moore to be one-of-a-kind.

“They’re one of the very few companies that have been able to brand their product in this way. Honestly, they can make or break you,” Mazzone says. “I’ve seen businesses that were on the verge of folding, and by taking in Benjamin Moore, their business was saved. Vice versa, I’ve seen others that have carried their brand, but then dropped their line only to then go out of business. Their brand is very powerful. I don’t know too many out there that can do what they do.”

Mazzone’s has always done well and, of course, has never needed “saving” by a larger company. That said, when they partnered with Benjamin Moore six years ago by taking in their paint line, the scope of their business changed and they saw a big shift in their sales finally going towards paint.

“We didn’t have a very strong line before Benjamin Moore,” admits Mazzone. “We were dedicating a lot of space to paint, but we didn’t have a line that was moving as well as it should’ve been for the amount of room we were giving the paint department.”

Call it a match made in heaven.

As for plans beyond the paint store, Mazzone wasn’t quite ready to divulge any information, but thoughts were being “strongly considered” for those with a “green thumb.”
