PHOTOS: Hitting the Double D Pool

Gowanus' second most popular body of water is open for the summer.

Summer's finally here, and Brooklyn is celebrating by hitting the pool.

All 54 New York City Parks' Department pools opened Wednesday, one of the brightest and sunniest days of the season so far. The pool at the Douglass/ Greene Playground on Third Avenue between Douglass and Degraw streets was a popular spot, especially for kids, who couldn't help themselves from occasionally breaking the rules and taking running leaps into the bright blue "wading" pool.

Also referred to as the D&D pool, or the Double D, the Douglass-Degraw pool is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and is closed between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. for a cleaning break. Admission is, of course, free and open to adults and kids of all ages and sizes, provided they follow pool rules.
