PHOTOS: The Carroll Park Kids' Concert Series Kicks Off

Festivities included food, prizes and Audra Rox.

It's been nothing but June gloom weatherwise this weekend, but the sun peeked out just long enough for Sunday's kick-off.

Hundreds gathered to watch Audra Rox rock and roll around the park, to enjoy sweet treats and to win raffle prizes while the small window of sunshine lasted. Kids ran around wielding balloon animals (and swords) and wearing chocolate fudge covered faces.

The festivities began around 4 p.m., when Audra and company, including Music for Aardvark's David Weinstone, kicked things off, performing catchy sing-a-long tunes such as "Sugar High," "Short Attention Span" and "Don't Wake The Baby."

After the performance, folks stuck around for the raffle and art contest winners.

Sunday's concert was the first of a summer series sponsored by Friends of Carroll Park, and as usual, a totally fun and free way to get a dose of sunshine and live music for the whole family.

"My son Charlie has been taking the Audra Rox classes for years and he always has a blast when we go see them live," said local resident Elena Melman.

"My daughter loves David Weinstone," said Josh Diamond, another local resident. "Her favorite song is Taxi."
