Cops Search For Man Who Assaulted Officer During Arrest

The incident took place at the Red Hook Houses.

The NYPD is searching for a man wanted in connection with assaulting an officer in Red Hook over the weekend. 

On Saturday, May 11, at 4:40 p.m., cops responded to a call that there was fighting and resisting arrest outside of the Red Hook Houses, located at 79 Lorraine Street. While police were in the process of arresting a female, a male suspect "tore the shield off the shirt of a uniformed police officer," according to police reports.

The man fled on foot before police could take him into custody. The officer did not sustain any injuries, and his shield was later recovered. 

Police say the wanted individual's name is Arthur Lawyer, 43. He is described as a male, black, standing 6'4", weighing 185 pounds, with brown eyes, and black hair that is worn in braids. [photo is attached]
