Carroll Gardens Angered Over Plans to Close Hospitals

Carroll Gardens residents speak out against plan to close two Brooklyn hospitals.

The impending closures of Interfaith Hospital and Long Island College Hospital have been met with much resistance by local residents, workers, community leaders and dignitaries.

There have been protests and rallies in support of the hospitals, and many have voiced their concerns over the dangerous effect this could have on the area.

Carroll Gardens Patch readers have taken to Facebook to speak out in support of the hospitals and against the decision.

Beverly DiCovello wrote, "Very disappointed that our leaders, are now coming out?Elections. This is a disgrace, that LICH is going through these tragic actions to this detrimental hospital that is very much needed in this community."

Zoe Barrows Pellegrino said, "Lets remember when primary season and general elections arrive that Bill DeBlasio and Daniel Squadron fought for this hospital to stay open. Lets give them more power in the coming years!"

Louise Conti-Franqui added, "What about the people in the community who depend on this hospital? Where was Mayor Bloomberg? Where was the Governor? 25 years ago I had an asthma attack. If I had to go to Methodist Hospital, I wouldn't be here today..6 years ago my husband couldn't breath and LICH found that his heart had clogged valves..twice LICH saved our lives and how many other people did the doctors at the hospital save? Thousands depend on this hospital and it doesn't seem to matter at all."

Paul Zanca said, "None of these people responsible for these closing a are affected so of course they are unconcerned."

Deborah Joyce McDougald added, "Governor Cuomo will not get my vote next time around. He turned his back on Brooklyn, so we should turn our backs on him!!"

Joseph Colombo wrote, "Our Governor Andrew Cuomo and the SUNY trustees are shamefully ignoring our Communities. The mismanagement of our hospitals hangs on them. Closing hospitals will only harm our Brooklyn neighbors."

Maria Di Muro Magliocco said, "I voted for Cuomo that was a BIG mistake he leave us high n dry thats y am not going 2 vote for him again its not fair he wanted our votes when he needed it so we need your help so where r u"
