Frankies, Prime Meats Partners Announce New Red Hook Event Space

Res will offer a space for chefs from outside of NYC to showcase their work.

While attending a Mesamérica conference in Mexico three days ago, the owners of Carroll Gardens restaurants Frankies and Prime Meats, and the coffee shop Café Pedlar, announced that they will be launching their latest project in Red Hook in only a few short weeks.

Res will be "an artist residency for chefs, a non-commercial environment where chefs from around the world can present their work" reads the website devoted to the new space, located "on the historic Brooklyn waterfront, basically looking the Statue of Liberty right in the eye and right across the river from Manhattan."

For a long time, chefs interested in showcasing their work in New York City had few options for doing so. While any skilled culinaire might swoon at an invitation to cook at The James Beard House, the cost of hiring staff, ingredients and travel can be prohibitive to those with small kitchens back home.

More recently, sites like CITY GRIT and the one the Frankies owners Frank Falcinelli and Frank Castronovo propose, have come into fashion as a less-expensive alternative. But Res will be the first in Brooklyn of its ilk.

According to the release, chefs will be able to "host collaborative dinners, one-off events, or installations, and the chefs can stay at Res while they present their work, free of charge."
