Debra Carey, Neighbor

<b>My name is Debra D. Carey </b>and I&#39;m the<b> </b>Chief Executive Officer of Downstate’s Healthcare System, now including three sites in Brooklyn: Central Brooklyn, Downstate Long Island College Hospital and the Downstate Bay Ridge Urgent Care Center.  I&#39;m committed to community health and wellness and am a strong proponent of community involvement in healthcare. 

Before coming to Downstate, I served as the Associate Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Previously, I held in several leadership positions at the University of Maryland and the Johns Hopkins Medical System.  I have always played an active role in industry associations and State Boards, which ensure high standards for practitioners of the healthcare professions.

I am honored to have been recognized by numerous organizations for contributions to healthcare, among them the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Paul J. Cooper Center for Human Services and the American Cancer Society.  I received a BS in nutrition from Syracuse University and an MS in health policy and management from the Harvard School of Public Health.
