I have some serious issues with both the Republicans and the Democrats; both sides have issues theyRead More should answer for, but some of them actually have some good ideas and might really accomplish something if they could just work together. Instead, they will only see things their way and not compromise, and the result is that not much is getting done in DC. I am sick of seeing one party or the other introducing a bill that has no hope of passing, and this is not unusual. If this happened in some private sector company, there would be questions after one incident and firings after any more; yet it's business as usual in DC. That's why I see the need for reform. We need more than just these two parties and a preferential voting system to get us there. They need some competition to help them get their act together, or to allow us to elect someone who does have their act together.

Sean: "Something the Founders could not do". What?? No, the Founders were brilliant. TheRead More Electoral College system has worked extremely well for over two hundred years; a process that preserves federalism and prevents chaos & tyranny. Is it 100% perfect? Maybe not, but it's damn near close. Sorry, but there are no brilliant, deep-thinking, federalist-minded individuals working on this NPV movement. They have a bunch of "Susans", and democrat politicians funded by George Soros & friends.
Sean Hassett April 17, 2014 at 08:06 am
Theresa, the founders were brilliant, but they did not have the means to do counting of preferentialRead More ranked votes. We can do that easily today. Just because an older established system has mostly worked well for over two hundred years does not mean that there is nothing better. There have only been two or three or so times when the election resulted in a winner with fewer popular votes, so we're not going to descend into chaos and tyranny.

EXTEND!!!! It's pathetic that we as citizens allow the people who have never had to use socialRead More benefits decide whether we should be allowed to use what we all pay for every week of our labor out of our paychecks. Tell me one person on Capital Hill who has ever lost a job and had to use the Unemployment System until they found another? I bet its very small number. Yet we give them the decision making power to rule on our lives? Why? They receive full medical coverage, lifetime jobs for some, insane pensions that the working man/woman could only dream of, yet they do not work a full year like the rest of us? These are the people who we want representing our everyday issues? Not in my opinion. Time for this country to ORGANIZE!!! It's us against them it seems. Very sad day to be an american when you see our government coming off the rails and there is no answer in sight.
fred March 17, 2014 at 01:55 pm
Deb- I think you make excellent points and capitalism is the only economic system that works.Read More However we haven't seen capitalism in this country in years. Too big too fail. Subsidies, tax breaks. Adam Smith would be rolling over in his grave. You as a small business owner is the one getting screwed by the government actions and large corporations greed

Hop aboard the LIRR and visit the Met or MOMA. You can easily spend an entire day at either ofRead More them. Another good trip in nice weather if Fort Tryon and the Cloisters, with lunch or dinner at the New Leaf Restaurant in Fort Tryon Park. Or go downtown, take a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. Or check out Battery Park, or rent a bicycle and ride up from the Battery to the GW Bridge along the Hudson River, turn around and pedal to Central Park, drop off the bike, take the subway to Penn and the LIRR. The last one we did was the 911 Memorial, Trinity Church & Cemetery, the NYSE, the Federal Building (where Washington was sworn-in as President and where the Bill of Rights was written; cap off this trip with a meal at Fraunces Tavern.

@Spoonfed: If your comment is directed at me, why are you directing it to someone else? As one whoRead More has lived in this state for five or six decades, my experience is that people in other parts of the country don't give a rat's testicle about New Jersey or its governor. So please stop polluting my email inbox. Thank you!
