Celebrate MLK Day and More This Week

What's happening this week.

- Winter is sure in full swing this week. Temperatures will be 20s and teens all week after Monday with a few scattered snow showers on Tuesday and Thursday. 

- Join volunteers and folks from all over NYC to empower youth to change their own environments Monday with a 5K Walk/Run, Farmers' Market, "I have a Dream" Oratory Contest, Bone Marrow Drive for minority retired 9/11 responder, dance and other activities for kids and families. The event kicks off at 9:30 a.m. at  PS 221, 791 Empire Boulevard. The 5K heads from Crown Heights to Park Slope's Da Nonna Restaurant, 140 7th Ave.

- The MLK Holiday Family Celebration at the Founders Auditorium at Medgar Evers College, 1650 Bedford Avenue, kicks off at 1 p.m. Monday. Medgar Evers College and the Central Brooklyn Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission are collaborating to honor his life through the eyes of the children. The event will feature student performances, including artwork, dance ensembles, art, essays and more.  A tribute will be paid to the late Congressman Major Owens, founder of the King Commission, during the ceremony.

- The 'I Have a Dream For My Child Forum' on Monday, 5:30 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson H.S. Campus, 400 Pennsylvania Avenue, is an emergency community forum that will address gun/gang violence in the communities of Crown Heights, Brownsville, East New York, East Flatbush, Bed-Stuyvesant and Canarsie.
