Support Douglass Greene Park, Attend the Benefit!

The Friends of the Park are looking for a little help from neighbors.

If you enjoy green space and live in the neighborhood, clear your schedule on the evening of November 11.

The Friends of are throwing a at the new Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites on Third Ave. in Gowanus to support programming in the park.

"We need to keep our events going and we want to have more of them in the summer," said head Friend Sue Wolfe. "It costs money to do all of the things we want to do."

Attendees will enjoy live jazz and blues, a silent auction, prizes and more. Raffle items and refreshments are provided by Douglass/ Greene’s local business partners including Brooklyn Boulders, Sheep Station, Brooklyn Brewery and Homage. There will be free beer and food! 

Douglass/ Greene is currently in the . Come this spring, the first phase of the park makeover will take place. A new playground, tables, water park elements and plantings will be installed.

And further down the road, if and when the Friends receive more funding, the community house will be renovated with year-round bathrooms and a green roof, and a new swimming pool will be installed.

All the more reason to get involved, and support the park.

"We need a place for kids to play and for people to relax," said Wolfe.

 

Friends of Douglass/ Greene Park fundraiser is on Nov. 11 at Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites, 131 Third Ave., at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20, $11 if you're a friend of the Friends on Facebook.
