FROM SKY TO BENEATH THE WATER...

With Ian Hart teaching..

COME JOIN US in making a mural of the Gowanus Canal as we explore a cross-section of the eco-system! Learn about the canal! Learn about plant, bird and marine life! Help reclaim clay and learn how clay is from the earth and can return to the earth in a re-cycling process! Learn about your neighborhood!

A former Ichthyological illustrator-in-residence at the American Museum of Natural History, Ian Hart is teaching the children's art day assisted by dancer/artist Amani Ansari and artist Deborah Farnault.
Materials provided. Wear studio clothes. We will be working with charcoal, paint, and clay. Everyone is welcome! Children must be accompanied by a parent or care-taker at all times.

Ian Hart was born and raised in California and received a B.Sc. in Evolution and Ecology at the University of California, Davis.
A founding member of the collective Arts in Action Los Angeles and Not an Alternative (NYC) Ian has created scientific illustrations, educational models, natural history exhibits, signs, and installations at a variety of institutions including the Dia Foundation, and the Museum of Modern Art. He has worked extensively for the American Museum of Natural History as an artist in the exhibitions department there.

This is his first teaching experience with Workshop Gallery Artists Foundation at Brooklyn Workshop Gallery.

A major component of his artistic practice is collaborative work with community-based organizations to develop images and objects that inspire the creation of a more peaceful and just society.
