After a string of assaults in the area, Brooklyn Bike Patrol was founded to escort residents home at night.

In the wake of in the past few months, Brooklyn Bike Patrol hopes to make walking home at night less of a worry for residents.

Founded on September 14 by Jay Ruiz, the patrol is set up so that anyone needing an escorted walk home from their subway station simply needs to call, email, or send a Facebook or Twitter message, and a BBP volunteer will meet them.

The BBP covers 25 subway stops in Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Kensington, Sunset Park, Carroll Gardens, Prospect Heights and Clinton Hill, including:

C line between Lafayette and Franklin avenues

G line at Clinton-Washington and Classon avenues

F line between Bergen Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway

R line between Pacific Street and 59th Street

The BBP’s volunteers have all undergone background checks at the 72nd precinct, and wear bright yellow BBP t-shirts with special patches on the sleeve. In addition, photos of the volunteers are all up on the BBP’s Facebook page.
