Slideshow: Brooklyn Celebrates Bastille Day on Smith St.

People came from near and far to join Bar Tabac's 10th Annual Bastille Day extravaganza.

 

Boerum Hill's  hosted its 10th Annual Bastille Day extravaganza on Sunday, July 15, with festivities starting at 11 a.m. and running until 10 p.m. 

French fare, pastis drinks and live music infused Smith Street between Bergen and Pacific streets with a certain joie de vivre. The largest Pétanque tournament in North America also took place, pitting 80 teams of three against one another in a test of tossing skill.

Performer Shayla Edmonds crooned away while the streets filled with dozens of white and red fedora-clad Francophiles. With  having moved to Carroll Gardens and surrounding neighborhoods in the past decade, it's no wonder that despite a brief downpour the day was such a hit.

"Don't leave, everyone," said Bar Tabac co-owner Christophe Haxaire. "The rain will last just five minutes and then there will be more Pétanque and more Pernod Ricard."
