The neighborhood branch must undergo asbestos abatement and roof repair.

If you've been drafting a summer reading list for the beach, make haste to the and borrow your books this week. The building will close at 6:00 p.m. on Friday June 15 and won't reopen for at least another two months while under construction.

All books that remain checked out from the library after June 15 can be returned to other Brooklyn Public Library locations.

A staffmember noted that all Carroll Gardens Library workers "have been reassigned for the next two months."

Jason Carey, the library's director of communications, shed light on the scope of the "roof repair and abatement work" being done over the summer. And, if you hadn't already guessed, it begins with an A.

"There is , so that will be removed," Carey told Carroll Gardens Patch via e-mail. "We are repairing the ceiling inside where it is damaged (by water, etc) and we are doing pointing on the brick outside."

The last time the building underwent major renovations was in 1973.

Stay with Patch for updates.
