Best Grilled Sandwich in Brooklyn Benefit Returns

The second annual fundraiser for The Amazing Garden in the Columbia Waterfront District will take place this weekend

 

It's baaaack. And we're not talking about Poltergeist. No, the one thing that has been haunting your dreams for the past year wasn't a ghost but a question: "Who makes the Best Grilled Sandwich in Brooklyn??!"

The good news is you will soon have your answer. The second annual Best Grilled Sandwich in Brooklyn Benefit, a fundraiser for located at Carroll and Columbia Streets, will take place this Saturday, September 15 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

, Evan Hanczor of Egg in Williamsburg, faced off against Ashley Fulk of Hill Country Chicken in Manhattan (and a "Top Chef" Season 6 contestant) as well as 's very own Rick Hauchman in a tasty two-hour showdown.

But now all that is yesterday's leftovers. This year, participating cheftestants will include Sohui Kim from The Good Fork, Jacques Gautier of Fort Reno Provisions, and Jay Ralston of Better Being Underground who will engage in a cookoff using locally sourced ingredients to determine who takes the 2012 crown.

Plus! Dan Pushman of the Sporkful Podcast will be on hand to judge, while live music will give you something to listen to as you chew.

The Amazing Garden, which has existed since the mid-90s, is a city parks department community garden, but is largely maintained and paid for by community volunteers. The city provides insurance for each community garden under their auspices.

Tickets to the competition are $20 at the door, and will include a taste of each sandwich as well as the opportunity to vote for the best. All money raised goes to support the community garden.
