A Note on Fireworks Amnesty and Penalties from the 76th Precinct

The local Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill police department sends a reminder that fireworks are illegal and residents will be penalized for possession this July 4th.

The would like to remind all residents to resist all urges to purchase or shoot off fireworks. The following statement was released from :

"The July 4th holiday is fast approaching! It is a time to celebrate our country’s 236th birthday! It is a time to gather with our loving families and good friends. It is a time to enjoy backyard barbeques.

And, unfortunately, it is a time for ILLEGAL FIREWORKS.

We have all read stories about some of the regrettable injuries suffered by users of ILLEGAL FIREWORKS, some by older persons, but usually, and tragically, by youngsters.

It is a huge price to pay for one night of reckless fun that may turn into a nightmare for the rest of your life. We cannot replace your eyes, your hands, or your life, but we can confiscate your car, close your business, and/or arresyt you to ensure the safety of all!

All concerned citizens may report the delivery, sale, and/or storage of ILLEGAL FIREWORKS to the Fireworks Hotline 800-FIRE-TIPS (800-347-3847) or by contacingt the 76th Precinct directly." 

Any individuals in posession of fireworks can also bring them to the local department in advance of the holiday and receive amnesty, police said.
