Help A Brooklyn Athlete Play in Division III All-Star Game

The Reese's Division III College All-Star Game tips off March 23, right before the NCAA Division III men’s basketball championship semi-finals at Salem Civic Center in Virginia, and one of Brooklyn's very own — Tahrike Carter — hopes to be on the court.

Carter, a guard for and captain of the Rhode Island College Anchormen, is one of the top senior student-players for whom fans can vote in a competition that opened on Monday. Fans can vote until Wednesday, March 13 at noon.

Voting takes place on the homepage of D3hoops.com. Carter, who hails from Fort Greene, is one of the students eligible from each of the eight Division III regions whose teams are no longer participating in the NCAA Tournament.

The two most-voted players will join 16 other seniors, two from each region, who were already selected for the game.  

Carter already has a lot to celebrate; He was one of four Rhode Island College men's basketball players to earn All-Little East honors and was named the 2013 Little East Conference Player of the Year, the Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Little East and to the league's All-Defensive Team.

He became the first player in league history to earn Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors in the same season, the Providence Journal reported.

He is majoring in management.

He graduated in 2009 from Clinton Hill's Benjamin Banneker Academy, where he earned the Leadership Award.

On Tuesday afternoon, Carter had 8,177 votes on D3Hoops.com, or 21 percent of the vote. In the lead was Andrew Galow, of Rhodes, with 8,483 votes.

According to the website, more than 37,000 ballots were cast in last year's competition.
