Judge Rejects Plea Deal Terms for PTA Embezzler Providence Hogan

A trial date will be set on November 1.

PTA embezzler Providence Hogan still doesn't have the money to accept a plea deal. If she can't come up with $40,000 by November 1, she will go to trial, and possibly, jail.

On Monday, Hogan's attorney Stephen Flamhaft begged Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Suzanne Mondo to consider terms of a deal that would have Hogan pay $30,000 now, and the rest of the money owed, roughly $52,000, over five years.

Mondo said that payment plan was "unacceptable."

"The victims need to be made whole now, not in five years," she said. "The plan you submitted for five years of payments is totally unacceptable."

A plea deal from the District Attorney's office has been on the table for months. To avoid jail time and trial, Hogan must pay $40,000 now, and the remainder over the next year. , Mondo told Flamhaft that if Hogan did not have the money by Monday, Oct. 3 she would go to trial. A trial date will be set on November 1.

Flamhaft said Hogan knew jail was a "realistic possibility."

Outside the courtroom, Hogan, sobbing and crying, said she had "nothing to live for."

"I might as well go to jail for as long as possible," she said, likening her situation to being in jail already. "I love the school. All I've ever wanted to do was fix this."

Hogan also owes many months of backrent on her Atlantic Avenue business, . In September, she settled that case and Hogan also owes at least $44,000 in back taxes.

About a dozen parents from PS 29 were in attendance.

"We agree with the DA's offer to the judge...[We want] the full amount as soon as possible," said PTA member Stephanie Manske.
