Common Core Melting Your Brain? Tell Us

Share your thoughts in our family room blog.

New York State’s Common Core learning program is in full swing in school districts across the state and while many children seem to be grasping the concepts, parents, who have bachelor’s and master’s degrees, are left baffled. when it comes to helping their children with homework.

Simple math problems become enigmas for parents, many of whom are growing frustrated with questions like: Writing in Math: Use counters. Tell how to make 10 when adding 8+5.

Acknowledging a gap in understanding among parents, who were taught simple math through memorization and not under common core lesson plans, some school districts have started offering “homework help” seminars to parents.
