Tish James, Levin Continue To Lobby for Brooklyn Libraries

On June 27, Council Members Letitia James and Stephen Levin presented testimony opposing the sales of Brooklyn Public Library's Boerum Hill and Brooklyn Height's branches.

Excerpts from the transcript appear below and a video of the proceedings is attached.

James: "BAM South the [luxury condo] tower site is in my district [in Fort Greene] and before voting yes I held up the administration's signature project because I and Council Member Levin insisted — no, we demanded — on maintaining the Pacific Street [library] branch as part of any deal for the tower."

Levin: "Regarding the Brooklyn Heights branch ... there have been literally hundreds of e-mails ... from constituents expressing their concern and their dismay ... What I have not heard from Brooklyn Public Library is a compelling reason why that library ... would have to be demolished and put into a new [luxury housing] development as the only way to save it."

How do you feel about the Brooklyn Public Library's attempts to close these local resources?
