“As a New York State Senator, you have improved the standard of living for all New Yorkers. Through your remarkable Teen Health Agenda, you have brought services to our children and sex education programs to our schools. You have fought tirelessly for juvenile and criminal justice reform, and are a vital advocate for the citizens overlooked by the courts. Your passion for fairness is evident in your efforts to create laws which prohibit discrimination against same-sex couples. New York shall forever be grateful for all you have done to rid it of intolerance and ignorance. We are proud of your achievements and recognize you as NYU Steinhardt’s Distinguished Alumna."
