Rough Weekend for Weiner Campaign

After a week of tough headlines, former Congressman's mayoral campaign still taking on water.

If mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner thought the weekend would quiet down the furor that has rocked his campaign for the past week, he thought wrong.

Weiner was the target of some serious political firepower on Sunday, including a panel on Meet the Press calling for him to get out of the mayor's race.

The panel, which included David Axelrod, former advisor to President Barack Obama, said his presence in the race was "wasting time and space."

"At this point, it's absurd — he is not going to be the next mayor of New York," Axelrod said. "Americans believe in second chances, but not third chances."

This all happened before host David Gregory let Weiner's closest rival — City Council Speaker Christine Quinn — have two unfettered minutes to slam his campaign.

"When you see scandal after scandal like this, what it does is create even more distrust and maybe even disgust in government," Quinn said on the program. "I think it's become clear that former congress member Weiner has a pattern of reckless behavior, an inability to tell the truth, and a real lack of maturity and responsibility."

These interviews all took place after Danny Kedem, Weiner's campaign manager, jumped ship, according to the New York Daily News.

Kedem was the manager of a reportedly small staff, according to the paper. Weiner said in an interview after his departure that he didn't expect the change to shake up his efforts at all.

What do you think? Is Weiner bailing water out of the Titanic, or is he right to stick around and let the people decide? Share in the comments.
