Nydia Velazquez at DNC: Obama Walks With Hispanic Community

On the first night of the Democratic National Convention, the Congresswoman stated her support for President Obama

While national news outlets have been focused on the First Lady's speech at the Democratic National Convention Tuesday night, in Brooklyn many viewers were just as excited by another lady at the podium.

"Our FIERCE client Nydia V. on stage at the DNC! Looking hot, making sense! WORK!" tweeted Allison Tray, owner of in Boerum Hill.

Wearing a light green fitted dress, appeared simultaneously poised and energized as she spoke at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina.

"In Spanish there is a saying that many mothers tell their children: 'Dime con quien andas y te dire quien eres.' Tell me with whom you walk and I will tell you who you are," Velazquez told the packed arena. She then noted the President's support of small businesses, senior citizens, women and the Hispanic community.

"President Obama has walked with us for the last four years—in good times and in tough times," she said of those groups. "And now, we are going to walk with the president to the polls and onward to victory.

Back home, others who had walked alongside Velazquez during her own campaign, echoed their support.

"Nydia was one of the stars of a great opening night at the Democratic Convention," told Patch in an e-mail. "What she said about President Obama is true of her as well—you know her by who she walks with, small business people, seniors, young people, Latinos.

"Along with keynote speaker Mayor Julian Castro of San Antonio, she reminded us that it is much better to be part of the party that embraces and invests in cities, drivers of our prosperity, diversity, and opportunity," continued Lander. "I'm proud to have worked hard for her in recent primary—when she faced a challenge backed by —and to call her my congresswoman."
