Assurances have been made that the HEAL grants will go through

The will remain open. In a meeting last night with Brooklyn elected officials,  "assurances were made" by representatives of the Cuomo Administration that the HEAL grants will be released to fund the merger of LICH and SUNY Downstate Medical Center, according to a press release from .

Earlier this week, the grants were suddenly in question,

Officials present at the meeting: Montgomery, Congresswoman Nydia Velasquez, Assemblywoman Joan Millman, Brooklyn Boro President Markowitz, NYS Senator Daniel Squadron, NYC Councilman Brad Lander and NYC Councilman Steve Levin.

“Governor Cuomo’s decision is great news for Long Island College Hospital, the merger with SUNY Downstate and for all Brooklynites whose lives and good health depend on LICH remaining open," said Marty Markowitz in a statement today.

For Squadron, keeping the hospital is a necessity.

"There is no doubt: Brooklyn needs LICH," he said in a statement today. "The LICH-Downstate merger is vital."
