Inside the Gowanus Canal Flushing Tunnel Work Site

Take a tour of the DEP project site on Columbia and Degraw streets.

The Gowanus Canal Flushing Tunnel dates back to 1911. Since 2009, the Department of Environmental Protection has been making major improvements on the tunnel, in order to restore the major piece of infrastructure.

Check out these pictures of the work site at Columbia and Degraw streets, some taken from the rooftop of . The hole in the ground is pretty impressive.

Last week, and was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Work was stopped at the site for the rest of the day, but was soon back up and running. There is an investigation open that is looking into the cause of the fall.
