Despite Slow Fundraising, Weiner's Got Cash to Burn

Could kick off campaign next week, Politico reported.

Anthony Weiner's slow but steady — with an emphasis on slow — march to a mayoral bid this year has rolled on in the most recent campaign finance filing disclosure.

Weiner's campaign, if it can really be called that yet, reportedover $75,000 in expenditures between mid-March and mid-May this year, with the bulk of that going towards taxes, legal services and office space.
During the same period, the campaign reported no contributions. In fact, going as far back as mid-2010, Weiner's campaign has only reported contribution refunds.

Despite the slow fundraising start, the former golden boy of the outer boroughs still has more than $4 million in estimated cash on hand to play with, more than any candidate whose name isn't Christine Quinn.

Quinn is far and away the campaign's earnings leader, in addition to sitting atop every poll so far, with more than $5.5 million in estimated cash on hand.

As in the money race, Weiner has polled in second so far among voters.

Politico reported Tuesday night that Weiner had hired Danny Kedem, who worked on a failed Congressional campaign in Staten Island in 2012, as his campaign manager.

The site also said Weiner is expected to announce a bonafide run for the city's top job as soon as next week, just in time to spin the already crowded race into a total maelstrom.

What do you think? Should Weiner jump in now? Share your thoughts in the comments.
