CB6 Office Closed Due to Broken Water Pipe, Flooding

A good portion of the main office flooded Thursday.

A pipe break at 250 Baltic Street Thursday flooded many areas of the building, including the district office of

"We sustained minimal loss of equipment, though the damage to our space was quite severe," wrote Craig Hammerman, district manager, in an email.

The office will be closed to drop-in's until further notice. Hammerman expects clean-up will take, at a minimum, several weeks.

New York State Office of Mental Health controls the building, and is in charge of clean-up and renovations, wrote Hammerman.

"They have been able to shut off the water and identify (they believe) where the leaks are," he wrote. "Since the pipe that failed was old and brittle, there have been several other failures in the line following the original burst."

The ceiling partially collapsed, which may contain asbestos, said Hammerman. The carpet absorbed "several inches of water," and will need to be replaced. 

"Our general files are secure, as is our office network and most of our electronics," wrote Hammerman. "Some items will need to be replaced and some paper files must be purged."

The timeline for clean-up is unclear, and Hammerman warned there may also be delays in responding to messages, complaints and general inquiries.
