Notes from CB6: Updates from Albany, and Several Liquor Licenses Approved

A general report on the community board meeting last night.

At the Community Board 6 meeting last night, state senators and assemblymembers took the stand to wish everyone a happy holidays and bring the audience up to date on current proposals and bills.

Senator Daniel Squadron spoke about the economic package that came out of Albany last week, and how it will affect the city, including $300 million towards infrastructure in New York, much of which will be used in New York City. In addition, the package secured funding for two social service programs: NY Youth Works, helping to employ low income youth from 16 - 24 years old, and Career Pathways, a jobs program that includes job training and wage subsidies.

Assemblywoman Joan Millman spoke briefly about the co-location of the Success Charter School, and expressed concern about the space at 284 Baltic Street, and the fact that there was "no outreach to the community." Later on in the meeting, the board approved a motion to request that the Department of Education work with Community Board 6 directly when making major decisions surrounding schools within the community.
