Woman Assaulted While Walking Home on Union St.

An unknown man approached the Carroll Gardens resident and punched her in the stomach without warning.

A young woman was the victim of an assault while walking home along Union Street on a recent Friday night.

"My wife and I heard screaming from our apartment and found [the victim] on the sidewalk shortly thereafter, while another neighbor called the police," a witness told Carroll Gardens Patch. "She was badly shaken up."

The 76th Precinct has confirmed that the incident took place on Union Street between Henry and Clinton Streets at 3 a.m. on August 4. A young woman reported that she was walking home by herself when a man started to walk "too close" to her, then proceeded to punch her in the stomach.

When the victim fell to the ground, the assailant fled.

"As we ran out of our apartment to the sound of her screams, we saw two cars slow down near the scene—a yellow cab and a black limo that looked like a car service," said the neighbor. "Neither car stopped to helped her."

Thankfully a number of neighbors responded to the noise on the sidewalk, and stayed with the woman, until officers from the 76th Precinct arrived, the neighbor stated.

An immediate canvass of the area was conducted but no suspects were found. The incident is still under investigation. If anyone has any information regarding the assault, please contact Community Affairs at 718 834 3207.
