Tire Thief Exposed Via Attempted Craigslist Sale

Carroll Gardens victim recognized items stolen from his car sold online the following day.

A thief was arrested early last month for taking various car parts after his victim spotted the stolen items in a Craigslist ad, police said.

On Thursday, September 6 a man reported to the 76th Precinct that after parking his red 2012 Honda Fit on Amity Street between Clinton and Henry Streets the previous day, he returned to find the 4 Dunlop tires and rims had been removed. The items were valued at $2455, according to police.

A canvass of the area was immediately conducted by officers but no suspects were identified.

The victim, 37, kept his eye on Craigslist, however. Sure enough, the same items that had been taken from him appeared online for sale the same day he filed his report. Working with the 76th Precinct, the victim then contacted the thief as if to buy back his own belongings but actually intending to confront the crook.
