$14,000 worth of jewelry, gone

A 27-year-old woman's apartment building was broken into, resulting in the loss of more than $14,000 worth of jewelry, cops said. On May 5, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., the front door of a Baltic Street building, located between Hicks and Columbia Street, was broken, resulting in damage to the lock. The thief or thieves got away with 18-carat gold earrings worth $800, a jade, silver and gold ring worth $4,000, an antique plantinum ruby ring worth $8,000, among other jewelry items, and an iPod.

A 38-year-old male was relaxing at home on May 13 around 5 p.m. when he heard the railings being broken or tampered with outside his apartment, cops said. The man burst out of his apartment to find another man attempting to steal three Trek bikes. The owner of the bikes tackled the thief and held him until the cops showed up. The thief, Kenneth Ryan, 47, is a "known-perp," and was arrested by Police Officer Alberto Iturralde.

Car broken into on Smith Street

A Toyota Highlander was broken into on Smith Street near Fourth Place between 11 a.m. on May 9 and 10 a.m. on May 10, cops said. The car, which belonged to a 59-year-old female, was found by the victim with a smashed rear passenger side window. The cars contents, including a Magellan GPS, a radar detector, a laptop, a camera, and an iPod, were all stolen.

More jewelry taken, and an Apple laptop

A window air conditioner was pushed into a Douglass Street apartment from the outside, giving access to a thief or thieves, cops said. The incident, which occurred between Smith and Hoyt streets, took place on May 6 between 12:45 and 5:45 p.m. The 44-year-old female victim is now without a sapphire ring, a turquoise bracelet, pearl earrings, a Virgin Mary medallion, an Apple laptop and a Canon digital camera, among other items.
