Truant and Friends Treat Themselves to Mom's Jewelry

A woman living at 423 Baltic Street recently reported a number of items missing that she believes were taken by her daughter and friends two months ago, said police. On Monday, April 23 between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. the victim's daughter allegedly cut school and brought friends to the victim's apartment. There, the group stole various personal belongings, which were officially reported missing on June 5. The items included two rings, two bracelets (Tiffany and Juicy Couture, respectively), a pendant and a Samsung digital camera with the sum total valued at nearly $2400.

Jeep Liberty Gets Jacked Up Overnight

A car was broken into on the corner of Van Brunt and President Streets over the weekend, police said. On Sunday, June 10 between 8:30 p.m. and 7:50 a.m. the following morning, an unknown person smashed the rear passenger window of a red 2002 Jeep Liberty. No property was taken. No suspects are known at this time. The victim is a 47-year-old female.

Car Accident Leads To Assault, Followed By Arrest

A man was arrested following an altercation at the scene of a car accident last Tuesday. Following an incident involving two cars at the Northeast corner of Kane Street and the BQE, the drivers of the vehicles engaged in a verbal dispute, according to police. One of the individuals the allegedly grabbed hold of and pulled the other man out of his 2004 Dodge sedan, repeatedly punching him on the right side of his face and intentionally damaging his suit ($250). Phybian Penant, 40, was arrested at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5. The victim is 25.

Two Incidents of Men Being Robbed of Cell Phones

  • A robbery took place at the intersection of Otsego and Wolcott Streets on Wednesday, June 6, said police. At 11:33 a.m. a 16-year-old male and a 26-year-old female engaged in a verbal dispute with a 22-year-old man. The 16-year-old then punched the victim in the back of the head, removed his jacket and cell, and took off with the female.  
  • Another man was robbed while walking home from work at the corner of Baltic and Nevins Streets on Friday, June 8. At approximately 7:00 p.m. the victim was approached by a stranger who searched his bag for money, then ran to 130 3rd Avenue and disappeared. In the struggle, a Metro PCS phone fell from the bag and the crook grabbed it as well, police said. The victim is a 40-year-old male. The suspect is a black male in his mid-20s.

Power Tools Taken During Break-In

A number of power tools were taken from a property on Nelson Street at the Gowanus Expressway without permission last week, said police. At some point on Friday, June 8 between 8:00 p.m. and 10 a.m. the next day, unknown individuals broke through the front door of the property and removed a battery-powered Ryobi drill ($150), a Milwaukee Kango ($150), a portable cable with converters ($250), and a demo hand Kango ($300). Combined with damage done to the door, the victim, 51, suffered a total loss of approximately $925. The guilty party will be charged with burglary plus criminal mischief. 

Fancy Camera Pilfered From Parked Ford

A white 2010 Ford Edge parked at the corner of 1st Place and Henry Street was the target of a break-in on Sunday, June 10  between 1:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. The victim, 41, parked his rental vehicle late that night. When he returned to it, he discovered that the window was broken and property had been removed. Items taken included a Canon Super 6 5-2009 worth $1400 and a Garmin GPS RX600. No suspects have been identified at this time, said police.
