Police Blotter: Three Assaults Over the Holidays

Plus, $8,000 worth of stolen liquor and robberies in Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill.

Three Assaults Over the Holidays; Three Suspects Arrested

  • On the 200 block of Hoyt Street, on Tuesday, Jan. 1 at 3 a.m. a man reported to the 76 Precinct that two unknown individuals had assaulted him. The men allegedly approached the victim from behind and struck him in the head with a bottle that left him with a laceration. Due to his injuries, the victim, 40, was unable to provide a description of his attackers. He drove himself to Astoria General Hospital.
  • Near 79 Hamilton Avenue, by the footbridge, an assault took place on Saturday, Dec. 29, cops said. At approximately 5 p.m. four male blacks attacked a man, punching him in the face and breaking his glasses. The attackers removed $40 in cash, an ID card and keys. Later, at 8:30 p.m., Officer Gomez of the 76 Precinct arrested a 15-year-old male who was positively identified by the victim. The suspect was charged with robbery, assault and criminal mischief.
  • Another assault occurred at the corner of Smith and President Streets on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 12:30 a.m., police said. A victim reported that six individuals threatened he and his associate as they left the Carroll St. subway station. As they were going upstairs, two of the hoodlums kicked him and punched him in back of the legs, then in the face after he had fallen. The first victim is a male, 22. The second victim, a male, 21. The 76 Precinct has arrested 18-year-old Daniel Vale and an unnamed 15-year-old in connection with the incident. Vale has been charged with assault with intent to cause injury.

Suspect Unloads $8K of Liquor from Warehouse

Video camera footage captured at 2 Atlantic Avenue, on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 1:14 a.m. revealed a suspect removing Hennessy liquor merchandise from Warehouse Wine and Spirits valued at $8000. A male, 50, reported the robbery. The incident is still undergoing investigation.

The Case of the Mysterious Broken Windshield

Criminal mischief was reported on the 100 block of Van Dyke Street, after unknown individuals broke the driver’s side of the windshield belonging to a black, 2005 Ford Expedition, 4-door sedan, cops said. The car’s owner, a male, 59 reported nothing stolen. The incident took place sometime between Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. on Jan. 2.

Attempted Robbery on First

There was an attempted robbery on the 30 block of 1st Place on Monday, Dec. 31, according to police reports. At approximately 8 p.m. a woman was walking along the street when an unknown individual came up from behind and punched her in back of head then walked away.  But the man quickly returned, and punched the victim again in her face, knocking her down. The assailant then demanded her cell phone, saying “Gimme your cell, b****.” Incredibly, the victim, 27, pushed her attacker away and he took off. The suspect is described as a male, black with dark skin, 5’11, and weighing 180 lbs.

Two Men Arrested in Separate Cell Phone Robberies

  • On Tuesday, Jan. 1 at 6:32 p.m. at 407 Court Street, Jashawn Ramirez, 17, was arrested possession of a stolen iPhone. The victim was a 16-year-old female, who recognized the individual who had robbed her, police said.
  • Jose Ramos, 20, was arrested at 235 Hoyt Street on Friday, Dec 28 at 5:50 p.m. after he and an associate displayed a large knife and demanded a victim throw items on the floor of the building, including a white phone and $150 cash. Police said that Ramos resides in the same building and that they are close to making an arrest on his partner in the robbery.

Woman Clocked on Coles Street

A woman reported being robbed on Thursday, Dec. 27, at 9 p.m., according to the 76 Precinct. The victim stated she was crossing the footbridge at Coles Street when an unknown individual grabbed her purse and fled toward Red Hook in an unknown direction. She was able to find her purse, but lost a Juicy Couture pink wallet ($80), $18 in cash, an EBT card, and a New York State ID. The victim is a female, 26. Her assailant was described as a male Hispanic, 5’9”, wearing black jeans and a black jacket, cops said.

Owner Finds Ford Escape Was Rummaged, With Items Removed

A woman who parked her car in front of 56 Cheever Place, returned to it to find clothing in the back was rummaged and a laptop had been stolen from the back seat, said cops. The victim, 31, stated that she didn’t recall if the doors had been locked but there was no sign of forced entry. The car is a black 4-door, Ford Escape. The laptop taken was an HP Elite ($943).
