Police Blotter: Dress Bandit Strikes Bird, Purses Stolen From Gallery, Sesame St. Dolls Swiped and More

The following arrest information was supplied by the 76th Precinct. It does not indicate a conviction.

Sesame Street Dolls Swiped From Car 

Several items were stolen from a car parked on First Place between Henry and Clinton Streets, over the weekend, cops said. The victim stated that he parked his grey 2006 GM Envoy there on Saturday, May 5, at 11:45 p.m. and when he returned to it at 9:20 a.m. on Sunday, May 6, someone had entered the car through unknown means. Taken were two TomTom GPS ($300), one Sony DVD player ($200), car keys for a Toyota Highlander, and three Sesame Street dolls including Elmo.

Purses Plucked From Gallery 

Two women had their purses stolen from a gallery on Friday, May 4. While working at on Columbia Street, Friday, May 4, between 5:00 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. one victim told police that someone entered the gallery, went to the rear and removed two purses without permission. One purse was hanging on a hook and another was resting on a table. The victims are 34 and 26, respectively. The first purse was a brown tote bag containing $80, a rolled-up Clayworks tote bag, three credit cards, keys, and a Metrocard. The second purse was a tan leather Pietro Alessandro purse worth $200, containing $50, a red leather wallet worth $120, keys, checkbook, drivers license, eyeglasses, and various other papers and credit cards.

Dress Bandit Strikes Bird Clothing Boutique

A woman stole two dresses valued at $1,520 from  clothing boutique, located at 220 Smith Street last week, cops said. The victim, 35, stated that while she was working on May 1 at 6:20 p.m., an unknown female entered the shop and left without paying for two Zero + Maria Cornejo dresses that were yellow and purple in color. The crook is described as approximately 30 years old, 5’6” and 130 lbs, wearing a black leather and suede jacket, brown dress shoes and blue jeans

Smith & Butler Tagged With Graffitti

On May 1, boutique located at 225 Smith Street, reported to the 76 Precinct that graffiti was discovered on the wall of the establishment. Markings were black in color, illegible, and were made at some point between noon on Tuesday, April 24 and 9:30 a.m. on May 1. The victim is female, 38.

Man Mauled By Two Strangers, Wallet Taken in Struggle

On Tuesday, May 1 at 11:45 a.m. a victim reported to police that he was exiting his apartment on Hoyt Street between Douglass and Butler Streets when he was approached from behind by two unknown men. One put him in a chokehold, saying, “Just give it up.” Anther removed the wallet from the victim's pocket. The victim is a male, 50, and missing a brown wallet worth $50, an ID card, a credit card and debit card. No suspects are known at this time, cops said.

Motorcycle Missing From Driveway

A man reported that at some point between March 15 and May 2 at 10:00 a.m., his motorcycle went missing from his driveway on Sackett Street between Columbia and Van Brunt. The victim stated to police that he did not initially report it as stolen because he thought it had been towed. Since then he has begun receiving tickets for the motorbike. The vehicle missing is an orange 2007 KTM motorcycle worth $17,000. 

Man Disturbs The Peace, Later Arrested For Crack Cocaine

A man was reported to police for cursing and yelling on the corner of Clinton Street and Atlantic Avenue on May 3 at 11:00 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they stopped the individual and told him to leave. Upon searching the white male, 34, it was discovered that he had crack cocaine on his person and he was subsequently arrested.

An Argument Ends in Assault

On May 1 at 4:00 p.m. at the corner of Columbia and Verona Streets, two men were reported yelling and cursing, police said. The exchange ended with one a 31-year-old man being punched in the nose. Derek Porter, 44, was arrested, was charged with assault and resisting arrest at 4:19 p.m.
