Police Blotter: Burglar Strikes Red Hook Bait & Tackle; Plus, More Local Robberies

Burglar Strikes Red Hook Bait & Tackle Shop

Red Hook Bait & Tackle Shop was the victim of a burglary last week, cops said. On Monday, August 20 between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. two unknown individuals entered the property and stole various items. As he was opening the bar for business, the owner noticed that both back doors were pushed in with the locks broken. Upon further examination of the space, it was discovered that the crooks had taken $830 in cash, $115 dollars worth of liquor from approximately 11 bottles of liquor, a Nokia cell phone and four iPods. Video camera surveillance footage captured two individuals breaking into the establishment. No arrests have been made at this time.

Two Robberies at Gunpoint 

  • On Monday, August 20, at approximately 8:30 p.m. a woman was walking along Court Street between Huntington and West 9th Streets when she was approached by two unknown individuals. "Gimme your cell phone or I’ll shoot you," said a female assailant, as she placed her hand on her waistband. The victim, 23, handed over her Verizon iPhone ($600) and the pair of crooks fled, cops said. The police are searching for a Hispanic couple. The female is said to be 5’4”, 120 lbs with a ponytail and freckles. The male is described as having brown hair in a Caesar cut and wearing dark clothes.   
  • Earlier in the month, on August 13, another robbery took place outside of 14 Verona Street. The victim, 39, told police he was was approached by two crooks, one who displayed a firearm. "Empty all your pockets and gimme everything you've got," said the thief, who took off with the victim's cell phone ($300) and $100 in cash. Police are looking for two males, both age 14, about 5’5”, and wearing dark clothes. 

Degraw St. Dame's Watch Stolen By Intruder

A 59-year-old Degraw St. woman was the victim of a burglary last week. On Thursday, August 16, between 6 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. unknown individuals entered her home. The entrance was not damaged in the invasion, however doors were left wide open, as well as closets and drawers which had been rifled through, police said. Among the items taken were a Movado watch ($600), $40 in loose change, and a key. No arrests have been made at this time. Smith St.

Crooks Attempt To Steal Copper Cable, Later Arrested

An MTA worker was the key witness in a crime that took place at the corner of Smith Street and 4th Place on Monday, August 20, cops reported. Between 4 a.m. to 4:15 a.m. the worker observed three criminals taking copper cable from a nearby construction site, then reported it to authorities. Upon canvassing the neighborhood, the witness was able to positively identify all three men when the arresting officer found them pushing a cart containing copper cable and tools near 383 3rd Avenue. Three men were arrested, ages 55, 51, and 53.

Honda Civic Stolen From Second Place Parking Spot

A Honda Civic was stolen from its spot on 2nd Place at some point between Wednesday, August 17 at 1:15 p.m. and 2:48 p.m. on Friday, August 19. The victim, 65, told police that she parked the 2010 grey four door and locked it, but returned to find it gone. The auto is worth $15,000. No arrests have been made at this time.
