Police Blotter: Union St. Residence Ransacked for Jewels; Plus, Two Other Break-Ins

Union St. Residence Ransacked for Jewels

A Union Street apartment located between Clinton and Henry Streets was the target of robbers with a taste for diamonds, according to police. On Thursday, May 24 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. the victims reported that their apartment was ransacked by unknown individuals who removed the following items:

  • a diamond band worth $1,250
  • one pansy white gold chain flower necklace worth $2600
  • a pair of pansy diamond earrings worth $1000
  • a diamond bon ring worth $800
  • two circular diamond earrings worth $1100 
  • a pair of aqua and diamond earrings worth $850
  • and an aqua-diamond ring worth $650

In addition to the jewelry, two MacBook Pro laptops, each valued at $2000, as well as an iPod Touch ($200) and $100 in cash were taken. There are no known suspects at this time, police said.

Trespasser Entered 2nd St. Home During Construction, Stole Purse

A home on 2nd Street between Bond and Hoyt Street was undergoing construction when an unknown individual entered and stole as much as he could grab, police said. On Tuesday, May 29 at approximately 6:30 p.m. a witness who was working at the residence stated he observed a stranger enter the house through the fornt door, which was closed but not locked, and take property that didn't belong to him. The suspect fled once he spied the construction worker and fled eastbound on 2nd street. With him, he took a black bag containing various forms of identification, an MTA pass, and $8. The victim and the witness are both 50 years old. Wanted is a Hispanic male, roughly 5 foot 6, 215 pounds, with short hair, wearing white shorts and a grey tank, police said.

Hoyt St. Home Broken Into While Owner Was Away

A 56-year-old woman was the victim of burglary and grand larceny while away from her home for just four days. Having left her Hoyt Street apartment between Douglass and Butler Streets on Saturday, May 26 at 12 a.m., she returned to it at 6:15 on Tuesday, May 29, and noticed the door had been broken. Upon entering, she discovered that the intruder was still there, but a Toshiba TV had been removed from the apartment. Chance Lloyd, 28, was imminently arrested by officers from the 76 Precinct and charged with burglary, criminal mischief of property and petty larceny. 

Verbal Dispute Evolved Into Robbery

A man and a woman involved in a verbal dispute on Garnet Street between Smith and Court Streets ended with one being charged with robbery, grand larceny and menacing. On Monday, May 28 at 2:20 a.m. Joseph Morelli, 42, removed property from the 29-year-old victim’s person, police said. He was arrested twenty minutes later.

Woman Roughed Up During Attempted Robbery in Coffey Park

At the Southwest corner of Verona Street and Dwight Street, a woman was walking through Coffey Park, when she was grabbed by three male teens last week, police said. The first male, 15, was wearing a white tee and blue shorts and struggled with the woman while the other two tried to remove her purse and cell phone. 

While struggling, the victim, 26, bit the pinky of the first male, police said. She was then thrown to the groud and injured her left elbow. No property was removed, bu she was left with a small laceration on her elbow. While the suspects remain unknown, the second male, 17, was wearing yellow shorts. The victim couldn’t recall the third male’s clothing, police said.
