Police Blotter: Bicycle Stolen; Restaurant Break-In; Pot Smoker Arrested at IKEA and More

Bicycle Stolen From Front Yard

An unchained 2x6 gear racing bicycle in a front yard along Tompkins Place near Kane Street was stolen at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26. The 52-year-old victim said he left the bicycle parked but unlocked, without a chain, in front of the residence. Due to the value of the bike ($2,000), the theft is considered grand larceny. No arrests have been made as of press time.

Woman Held At Gunpoint, Purse Stolen

A woman was held at gunpoint on West 9th Street, between Henry and Clinton Streets, on Monday, February 27 at about 9:00 p.m. The 28-year-old victim stated that while walking along West 9th she noticed that someone was following her and quickly crossed to the opposite side of the street, where it was better lit. The criminal followed suit and approached the woman, pulling out a firearm. Remaining silent, he ripped off the victim's purse before fleeing in the direction of Red Hook. The crook was described as approximately 16 years old. In addition to the Boy Meets Girl label purse, $5 in cash, and iPhone valued at $500, an Urban Outfitters wallet and various credit cards were stolen.

Man Arrested for Smoking Marijuana Outside of IKEA

While on a routine patrol at 1:50 p.m. on Monday, February 27, police observed a man smoking a lit marijuana cigarette in the parking lot of IKEA on Beard Street near Richards Street. Upon searching the 51-year-old toker, he was found to be in possession of a container with a small amount of marijuana as well and was consequently arrested.

Ghang Thai Kitchen Restaurant Break-In

On Saturday, March 3,  Ghang Thai Kitchen restaurant at 229 Court Street at the corner of Warren Street was the victim of a burglary. Between 12:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. suspects broke in through the front of the restaurant. Upon returning to work, employees noticed that an ATM machine located inside of the store but run by an independent operator had been damaged. At least $5,200 was stolen from the machine and is currently undergoing further investigation.
