Police Blotter: 13-Year-Old Held Up By Thieves For Headphones; and More

13-Year-Old Held Up By Thieves Who Wanted Headphones 

A 13-year-old boy was the victim of a robbery inside of an apartment building elevator along Hoyt Street between Warren and Wyckoff Streets last week, police said. On May 16 the young victim reported that he was followed into the lobby of his apartment building by two individuals at approximately 3:52 p.m. in the afternoon. Once inside the elevator, the unknown teens displayed a black handgun and said “Gimme your headphones,” followed by, “What do you have in your pockets?” according to cops. The menacing youths, both 17, then took the victim's Beats by Dr. Dre headphones ($195) and Nook e-reader ($200) before he exited the elevator, fearing for his life. One of the suspects was arrested the following day at 11:17 a.m. and charged with robbery in the second degree and menacing in the third degree. The other suspect is still being investigated, cops said.

Expensive Eyewear Stolen From Inside of Mercedes-Benz

A 2007 grey Mercedes-Benz parked on Warren Street, Saturday, May 19 was the victim of a crime between 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on May 20. After leaving the vehicle at that location, the 58-year-old owner returned and discovered that the drivers side door was ajar. There were no signs of fored entry, cops said. Furthermore, the victim stated that he wasn’t sure if the doors were automatically locked. As a result, unknown individuals entered the car and took a pair of metallic eyeglasses ($500) and black sunglasses ($500), and a New York State registration card.

iPhone Ripped Off While Riding The Bus

A man's iPhone was stolen while riding the bus last week. According to cops, the victim exited at the corner of Court and Sackett Streets on Sunday, May 20 at 9:45 a.m. only to realize that his phone must have fallen from his pocket. The victim chased after the bus and caught up to it at the Smith-9th Street stop and explained to the bus driver what had happened. After a search of the bus, however, he couldn’t find his missing property. The victim later used a built-in app on his iPhone to track it to 28 West 9th Street, cops said. But it was subsequently shut off and rendered untraceable after that. The victim is a male, 28.

Woman Whacks Acquaintance With Large Wooden Stick

A 40-year-old man was struck in the face with a large wooden stick over the weekend, cops said. According to the 76 Precinct on Saturday, May 19 at 11:00 p.m. a 20-year-old female got into a heated exchange with the victim and struck him, causing lacerations to the face. A 42-year-old female witnessed observed the crime, which took place at Gowanus Houses. No arrests have been made at this time.

Materials Missing From Smith Street Construction Site

Several miscellaneous items, including copper, were stolen from an F&S Contracting site at Smith and West 9th Street on Saturday, May 12, cops said. The burglary took place at some point between 4:30 p.m. on May 12 and 6 a.m. on May 14. The person reporting the crime stated that upon returning to the work site, he observed that the fence had been cut and that multiple items were stolen from the storage container. No suspects are known at this time, cops said.
