Updated: Lucali Owner Viciously Stabbed

Mark Iacono is being treated at Lutheran Hospital

After a brazen daytime attack Friday afternoon, pizzeria owner Mark Iacono is expected to survive, despite being stabbed repeatedly in the neck and chest in front of , cops said.

A police source confirms the alleged attacker's name is Benny Geritano. He was arrested at and is in custody, police officials said. He has not yet been charged.

The extremely popular Lucali did not open for business tonight. Even before 6 p.m. when the restaurant normally opens, hungry fans of the thin pies were lining up.

One hopeful diner, Daniella LaRocco, was saddened by the news.

"That's awful," she said to reporters. "This is a great local restaurant."

Brooks of Sheffield, the pseudonym of the author of the local historical blog Lost City, also stopped by to express his condolences.

"It's sad," he said.

A worker at the restaurant earlier on Friday afternoon said employees did not know exactly what was going on, but added, "We're all a nervous wreck over here."

The stabbing occured directly in front of and across the street from the school just before it let out.

Iacono was taken to Lutheran Hospital with stab wounds to his neck and back, a police source said. Officials were called to the scene at 2:36 p.m.

"It's crazy," said Mike Perez, who had just picked up his son from school at PS 58. "Stuff like this doesn't happen around here."
