UPDATE: Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle on Hamilton Avenue and Smith Street

Updated, 3:24 p.m.

The 2000 Chevy was a Silverado truck, and the operater a 44-year-old male, according to police. The person who was struck was crossing Hamilton Avenue on Smith Street from north to south, away from Carroll Gardens and toward Red Hook. No criminality is expected, but the investigation is ongoing.

The injured male was found lying on the ground and had multiple injuries to his body, according to police.

No charges are being brought against the driver at this time, according to police. The injured male is still listed in critical condition.

At 6:54 a.m. a 28-year-old male was crossing Hamilton Avenue on Smith Street when he was struck by a 2000 Chevy, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Sunset Park and is in critical condition, police said.

The Chevy was traveling eastbound on Hamilton Avenue.

At 8:30 a.m. investigators and highway patrol officers were on the scene, taking pictures and directing traffic. A very large puddle of bright red blood was still on the ground.

Andres Torez said he was visiting his brother on the corner of Bush Street and Hamilton Avenue, one block from the scene. He heard that cops were outside and went to see what was going on, he said.

"I was nervous," he added.

Torez pointed out the blood wasn't near the crosswalk.

"It looks like they were crossing where there's no crosswalk," he said.
