NYPD: Rumors of Gun-Toting Teen at Carroll Park False

Cops say no one was armed at Tuesday scuffle in Carroll Gardens.

In response to recent rumors regarding an after-school scuffle that took place in Carroll Park this week, an NYPD source is setting the record straight.

On Tuesday afternoon at approximately 4 p.m., police officers rushed inside of Carroll Park to break up a fight that had erupted between some teens. But reports that one young individual was carrying a handgun are false, said cops.

"There was no gun involved," said the police source. "[The incident] was falsely reported to us so that we would respond more quickly there."

In fact, some residents feel there should always be an NYPD presence when students are getting out of school.

"I don't understand why there isn't a cop patrolling the park from 3 to 5," commented Stefanie Johnson-Farrell on the Carroll Gardens Facebook page.

To express similar opinions or other concerns, residents are encouraged to attend the monthly council meeting at the 76th Precinct this Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m.
