Man Fatally Shot After Stabbing Roommate, Threatening Cops

A roommate dispute that developed into a knifing ended when a Carroll Gardens man threatened police officers.


A man was fatally shot in Carroll Gardens on Friday evening after allegedly stabbing his roommate and threatening NYPD officers, according to a police source.

At approximately 8 p.m. officers of the 76th Precinct responded to a 911 call at 541 Court Street that a domestic dispute between two roommates had developed into a knifing, when one man stabbed another in the shoulder, cops said.

The suspect fled before police arrived on the scene, according to reports. After immediately canvassing the surrounding area, the man was observed by officers at the intersection of Hamilton and Court, where he was asked to drop his weapon, cops said.

The individual refused to put down his knife, a police source said. He was described by witnesses as "enraged."

After repeated attempts to get the individual to drop the weapon, the man allegedly lunged at police. Officers opened fire and the individual was shot, cops said.

The suspect was pronounced dead on arrival at Lutheran Hospital, according to a source.

This investigation is ongoing, as the cause for the initial dispute is still unknown. But the stabbing victim has suffered only minor wounds, police said.
