Former Local Mobster Admits to Busting Up Cars For Profit
The scam brought an extra flow of cash to a neighborhood auto body shop in cahoots with the mob.
A former mobster – linked to the Colombo family – testified in Brooklyn federal court this week that he used to bust up cars on the street to drum up more business for his friend’s auto-repair business in the mid 1990s, according to the New York Post.
Joseph “Joe Kreo” Iborti testified that he used to canvass the streets of Carroll Gardens, damaging cars so badly they would need to be taken to a shop, says the article.
“I’d bang up cars,” Iborti said, according to the Post, sometimes even pouring acid on the vehicles.

The victims would then take their vandalized cars to a nearby shop owned by Eric Curcio, unaware that he was in cahoots with Iborti and the mob, says the article.
