76 Pct Launches New E-Mail Communication System

Local police have added an additional channel for exchanging information.

The has a new e-mail address and a new approach to communicating with the community. Under the leadership of recently appointed , the local unit has officially updated its primary point of contact online to 76Precinct@NYPD.org.

"I am committed to having every single person interested in assisting us in our mission to make our community a safer place to live and work, informed of all-important, major happenings that may occur," Captain Schiff wrote in his inaugural May newsletter.

"By taking advantage of every communication means available to keep as many people informed as possible, such as utilizing e-mail blasts, community newsletters, and in the future, other social media, we can keep people safe by soliciting timely and critical information from them by electronic means."

To that end, the Commanding Officer told Carroll Gardens Patch that the precinct will send blasts out to community members on their e-mail list whenever the police force needs to share critical, timely information or are seeking out help in an investigation.

"It has been proven that this type of interaction can be very effective in combating crime and we wish to include the community in this endeavor," Captain Schiff told Patch.

The new e-mail address should also be used in the event that residents have actionable intelligence regarding criminal activity they would like to share with the precinct. Unlike the old gmail address, this NYPD account will be checked on a regular basis.

"It should not be used for quality of life issues, such as a noise complaint or lost pet," said the captain. For those or similar concerns, community members should call 311.

Instead, the new e-mail will provide another channel for community members to share information regarding suspicious activity or knowledge of crimes. In the event of an emergency, the captain reiterated that residents should always call 911.

"I would also encourage residents to always feel they can come to the precinct in person and to attend our monthly council meetings," said the captain. 

If you wish to receive e-mail crime alerts, notifications, and newsletters from the 76 Precinct, send an e-mail to 76Precinct@NYPD.org stating that you desire to receive such information. Write “Request to Join the 76th Precinct Community Contact System” in the subject line and include your last name, first name, organization name, and primary e-mail address. 

The next 76 Precinct Community Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m.
