Last night's Save Gowanus Community Rally w/Bill Thompson

Last night, at a rally organized by Save Gowanus. residents, community leaders, and groups from Carroll Gardens/Gowanus turned out near the banks of the pungent and bacteria filled Gowanus Canal to voice their grievances regarding the impacts of the Lightstone Development on the Greater Carroll Gardens/Gowanus Community.

Mayoral hopeful, Bill Thompson, listened thoughtfully on the Carroll Street Bridge as Warren Cohen of Save Gowanus, Marlene Donnely from FROGG Friends and Resdients of Greater Gowanus , and others spoke to Mr. Thompson in earnest about the massive size of the Lightstone Development Development and the many concerns the project raises for our community.  Mr. Thompson seemed to suggest "patience is a virtue" when it comes to planning developments the size of Lightstone, and that such developments must serve the the existing community even as they bring in large numbers of new residents.

The site of the development, so close to the water's edge, is the same exact spot where Hurrican Sandy wreaked flooding havoc last fall.

Save Gowanus is composed of Gowanus residents and home-owners living near the site on Bond Street between Carroll Street and 2nd Street, as well as members of civic groups Friends of Bond (FOB) and Friends and Residents of Greater Gowanus (FROGG).
