Brooklyn Public Library Launches Digital Creativity Workshops

Grand Army Plaza library's new multifunctional creative tech learning space is open! Join us for classes and workshops and increase your knowledge on all things digital.

The Shelby White and Leon Levy Information Commons at Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library is officially open and welcoming visitors of all ages. The Info Commons is an inviting and multifunctional space with areas for individual work as well as collaborative learning, and the latest computer and software technology. With seating and outlets for 70 laptop users, and 25 workstations, the work area is ideal for creative workers, such as writers and designers, and students alike. There is also a 36-seat lab in which the Library will host free classes and workshops to expand abilities and imagination.

The Library partnered with BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn to present a series of two-hour, single-session courses on digital literacy and education at Info Commons. Set to run through March, the workshops include in-depth tours of digital cameras and story creation methods such as podcasts. If videos are your thing, bring your mobile device or tablet to the Library on Thursday, January 31st to learn how to make compelling short-form videos. More importantly, perhaps, the course will also teach you how to show your video creations to the world on YouTube, Vimeo and more. We’ll start you off with scriptwriting and storyboarding best practices, discuss frame composition, and then cover how to get the best audio and lighting when recording your footage. You’ll also explore the free editing software programs so you can assemble it all into your final short masterpiece. The Short-Form Video Technique workshop is at 4pm if you have a PC and 6:30pm if you have a Mac. It is FREE and open to the public.
