Table 87 - A Welcome Addition to the Great Brooklyn Pizza Experience

Enough about change and businesses closing. I would like to report that I’ve recently had the pleasure of visiting Table 87, a place that has been around for less than a year  and  I found it to be a welcome addition to the surrounding area of Carroll Gardens.

Yesterday, my mom and I had outstanding pizza and calzone at this relatively new establishment which is located right on the Cobble Hill/Brooklyn Heights border.  Table 87  has a coal-fired oven which turns out a nicely charred, crispy crust.  We shared a burrata pizza, recommended by Monica, our friendly waitress, and it was really fabulous.  Burrata cheese is made with mozzarella and cream and  when combined with San Marzano tomatoes and fragrant basil, it makes for a particularly delicious pie.  We also had a 4-cheese calzone which was filled with the heavenly creaminess of mozzarella, ricotta, fontina, and parmigiano reggiano. Yes, we do love cheese!

The entire staff was attentive and the proprietor, Tommy Cucco, came by to our table and we shared our mutual love of pizza stories.  In addition to pizza (large pies, generous personal sized pies, and, surprisingly, slices) and calzone, the menu also features sandwiches/panini, pastas and salads using seasonal, locally grown ingredients.  Mozzarella is made fresh on the premises daily.  Many of the products used in the restaurant are for sale and they include jars of roasted garlic and spicy peppers which are also made on the premises and are offered as complimentary condiments with your pizza.

The lovely back dining room has a nice, cool yet comfortable ambience. The whole time we were there, the kind of music I grew up with played in the background, including standards by Perry Como, Dean Martin, and Nat King Cole - a perfectly relaxed accompaniment to our pizza experience.

Table 87 is located at 87 Atlantic Avenue, between Hicks and Henry Streets and their number is 718-797-9300.  I’m adding it to my favorite pizza list and looking forward to going back!
