Red Hook Boaters to be Recognized at Parks Conference

Partnerships for Parks will honor Red Hook Boaters for work with NYC Parks Department.

The Red Hook Boaters, a volunteer organization that provides free kayaking in Red Hook, will be honored for its work to help maintain the beachfront at Valentino Pier.

The volunteer group will receive the Golden Trowel award at the second annual Partnerships for Parks conference at NYU School of Law Nov. 16. The Golden Trowel award was designed to recognize groups’ commitment to enacting change in neighborhood parks through community activism.

Throughout the past eight years in Red Hook, RHB has worked hand-in-hand with the New York City Parks Department and other agencies to revitalize Brooklyn's waterfront. The organization holds regular clean ups which help thousands to access the waterfront park every year.

Along with securing additional funding for a comfort station to be built at the site, RHB most recently received a grant from Partnerships for Parks to purchase a new container (to house kayaks, volunteer tools and safety equipment), since their previous one was severely damaged during Superstorm Sandy.
