Discussion and Guest Speaker:

Journey to the Center of the Knish

When New York City native Laura Silver found out she
could trace her roots to  Knyszyn, Poland, she made it her business to go
to the small town fifteen minutes northeast of Bialystok. In June 2013, thanks
to an award from CEC Artslink, she travelled to Knyszyn to lead a knish-baking
session in the town's annual festival where she was named a judge in the town's
third annual knish-off.

At the Greenpoint Shul, Laura will discuss her recent
adventures in Knyszyn, the legend of the knish and the state of the pastry in modern-day
Poland. It's just the tip of mustard bottle. Laura full-length memoir and food
history, Knish: In Search of the Jewish Soul Food, is due out from Brandeis
University Press in May 2014.
