With a referendum on casino gambling on the November 4 ballot, the majority owner of two upstate ‘racinos’ comes to St. Francis College to help answer the questions, Is Casino Gambling Good for New Yorkers? on Thursday, October 31 at 7:00pm in the Maroney Forum for Arts, Culture and Education.

Jeff Gural, chair of the Newmark Grubb Knight Frank real estate firm and majority owner of Tioga Downs and Vernon Downs will debate the issue with Harry Siegel, a Daily News Columnist and member of the Daily News Editorial Board. The event will be moderated by New York City Budget Director Abe Lackman.

The event was organized by St. Francis College Scholar in Residence Fred Siegel.

About Jeffrey Gural
Jeffrey Gural is Chairman of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank which currently manages approximately 150 buildings in the Metropolitan New York area. Mr. Gural is a member of the Board of Directors of The Real Estate Board of New York; President of the New York Chapter of The Starlight Children’s Foundation; Chairman of “I Have a Dream” - New York. His hobby is harness racing and he was instrumental in convincing lawmakers in Albany that allowing racetracks to have video lottery terminals would save the industry. In 2005 he brought both Tioga Downs and Vernon Downs out of bankruptcy. He has a lease on the Meadowlands Racetrack in NJ which is the number one harness track in the country.

In addition to his work at St. Francis College, Fred Siegel is also a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute and author of The Prince of the City: Giuliani, New York and the Genius of American Life, has been instrumental in bringing a number of timely and provocative events to the College. Past forums hosted by St. Francis include The Tension Between Catholic Schools & Charter Schools,Freedom Summer RevistedCan You be Both a Business Success and Ethically Noble? and Lincoln, Grant and the Civil War.
